Another trip today - decided that I'd go for a wild style since I hadn't yet braved it. And since I was going for gusto, Wild AND natural. Let me tell you - the burger was so wild that it piddled* on me the minute I took it out of the bag. The lettuce wrapping didn't do any good in hiding it from me - the wild style burger's natural predator - but I saw past the emission and straight in to the leafy foliage that was resting in my hands. I freed it from the bonds of the fake lettuce (i.e. the parchment paper) and devoured it like a Lion scarfing down a fresh meaty gazelle. It's too bad my office is as cold as Iceland in December (but here it's August!) otherwise some after-lunch tanning in the sun would be in order. Definitely a favorite now. I'd purr if I could. * - It's fresh, it's made with real ingredients and not that other stuff that the big boys use, and it was a lettuce wrap (thus "natural"). Hot beef + cool lettuce = some condensation. Just something we natural folks have learned to appreciate, so it does not detract from my score.

Drifter's is by far the best hamburger place I have ever been to. The staff is always friendly and love the message they send. This is comparable to in n' out in other parts of the country but honestly I think it is better. I no longer live in the area but always stop by when I'm in town. Keep it up drifters!

The burgers here are great and anywhere that has Sriracha at there sauce station gets a thumbs up from me. I give 3 stars because the employees are obviously disgruntled. I understand that working in fast food isn't always a blast but you should always be kind and courteous towards your customers.

I will go ahead and compare to In-n-Out, well...because I can. We live in Florida but visit the West Coast pretty often. I LOVE In-n-Out and my brother assured me that Drifters was the same and took me there during my recent visit. My verdict? Yes! If you would blindfold me, I would not be able to tell the difference between the burgers. Well, maybe I could. The fries, on the other hand, were just okay and probably frozen. Didn't get to try the milkshakes though. The restaurant is not as bright and clean but the staff is friendly. They franchise, so there may be hope for South Florida!

Really confused how this place got best burgers in C.S. I found it to be no better than Wendy's. Wouldn't make a trip out of my way for this place.

  • Amanda T.

Meh. I don't get the great reviews. I guess it's like InAndOut but I've only been there once because it was so "Meh". So, I guess my reviews for those are the same.

Mmmh! The Drifter's burgers really taste like In n Out in CA, but they're better because I don't have to wait till my next trip to CA to bite into that greasy burger! Thank you for filling the void in my mouth!

I jones for these burgers, and too me, that's good enough to be compared to In-N-Out. I grew up less then 10 miles from an In-N-Out, and this place fills that void. The sauce is on point and wild style is great. The bun is probably the biggest difference, but it's a great bun in it's own right. I might even start to prefer it once I get a few more down my gullet. I gave them 5 stars because for the Springs, they are the best. The fact that they get compared to something that can't be purchased in this state, and has such a devoted following should tell you as much. But if they were located next to an In-N-Out, I would give them 4 stars, and only because their fries aren't as good.

Learned on Saturday that you can't get bacon! At least not at the Chapel Hills location, unless it's breakfast time. Super, super sad. Everything else still stands. Love it.

Best "quick" burger in Springs. Definitely go for the "wild style". Best thing about this place is that they strive for 100% natural, Callicrate beef and non-GMO ingredients.

    (5)
  • Mark S.

Satisfied my In-N-Out craving. Is it perfect? No, but the burger (wild style) is pretty damn close. Marked down for sketchy location and so so interior. But you're there for the burger, righ?

  • Steph A.

The burgers here are amazing! The closest thing to In n Out burger in Colorado. The staff is friendly and the service is very fast. They are closed on Sundays which I didn't know until we passed by there on a Sunday. Love this place!

Best thing around since there is no Inn-n-Out in this state! Not only is it a locally owned/operated business, but they use only local, organic meat and buns! The patty is made in a mustard fry just the same as inn-n-out, they also provide a bountiful quantity of veggies on your patty- plenty of large crisp lettuce, huge tomato with the option of grilled or sliced onions. Just don't forget to order your burger "WILD STYLE"!!!! My bf and I ordered their version of the double-double combo, a single and a boysenberry shake which was delicious! Just had it the other day and I am already craving it again!!! =)

  • Leah Y.

Great burgers and fries! Similar to In 'n Out flavors but much better fries although not homemade at Drifters. Great service and friendly staff. The shakes are okay but need some work to get the flavor in there - I don't think they are mixed well enough. I've never had the breakfast. Such a wonderful burger joint and I love that it is not corporate. It has a nice small business presence.

favorite hamburgers in colorado springs! i loooooove that they are getting ranch foods direct beef (local, antibiotic-free, etc...) and that they have non-gmo wheat buns! so awesome. i only wish that their building would reflect that. eating in the restaurant is kind of the worst: it feels dirty and there's no pride in that place. they have some of the best quality hamburgers around, now if only they could represent that in their locale!

  • Francisca E.

If you are looking for burgers that are similar to in n out, I recommend Drifters. Of course its not exactly the same but its a good substitute as opposed to traveling 1,000 miles for in n out. Great place!

    (5)
  • Matt B.

Prob best burger place in town. Similar to In n out just not quite there. We lived in AZ for 8 years and we ate In n out all the time. Still eat there when I go back and no burger joint will ever b better. I am glad Drifters is here so I can get something similar. Get the grilled onions on ur burger if u like them, they remind the the most if In n out.

Love the big island with fries and a shake very delicious if you want the best burger in Colorado Springs go here

They have a second location at the Chapel Hills mall, across the street from the Walmart near the Sonic. It is just as good at the Garden of the Gods location. Closed on Sunday.

  • Heather G.

I love Drifters! They are the closest thing to In-N-Out in Colorado. They are quick, but the food is fresh. We love coming here, it is just on the wrong side of town for us. I went today and the flavor is a little lacking, but this is the first time it has ever been like this.

  • Craig B.

Burgers and fries were both very good but not great. The fact that I found a hair on my burger and heard another customer say that they found a hair in their fries didn't help my appetite much. Ceiling leaking water (I presume) as customers are eating, aslo a turnoff for me. Very much a dive, which is absolutely fine in my book as long as the place is clean an the food is great, but this place falls short in both of those areas.

    (3)
  • James S.

Absolutely disgusting...no where near an In-N-Out burger like people seem to think...it's not even edible. I ordered the "double-double" knock off and couldn't finish because it was so awful. I'm shivering as I write this thinking about the experience...

  • Dominic G.

If you like in-n-out, then you'll love this place!

It's better than McDonalds. And it doesn't fit neatly into the "fast-food burger chain" mould of Burger King, Wendys, etc. Here's what I've heard: the guy that runs this place is the same guy that ran "Classic Burgers" years ago on the north-central part of town. He ran into some issues and couldn't stay in business. So this is just his most recent effort at running a burger joint, and I say good effort. Drifters isn't bad. It isn't In 'n' Out like some of the other reviewers have mentioned, but it isn't bad. The bummer for them is that the location is horrendous. Hard to find, not near any other restaurants, and the sign is hidden by the a train overpass. Here's my biggest complaint: the few times I've gone here, I always go through through the drive-through, and I'm always handed a paper bag that's dripping grease. Literally, seeping through the bottom of the bag. I know cheeseburgers are greasy, but you'd think that they'd actually check the bag to make sure this wouldn't happen. If they could get a handle on this, I'd be more prone to dropping by more often.

There seems to be a runnign comparison between this place and In-n-Out, so I'll jump on board; much like In-n-Out, people are telling me how great it is and how I should worship at it's Burger Altar, and much like In-n-Out; although the burgers are good; I found it to be nothing special and falling short of the expectations that others had given me. Yes, the burgers are good; the shakes are pretty good, and the fries are pretty good. Much like In-n-Out, that is pretty much the extent of this menu (although, this place has breakfast, I will say the breakfast burritos are great.) It is, however, very clean inside, and the folks behind the counter have been pleasant on all my visits. Not so say you shouldn't go here; it kicks other fast food places straight in the dick, and the beef they use here is superior to what you would likely find in most restraurants. Definitely eat here - and get the burgers. Just dont expect the heavens to open up and have choirs of cherubim screaming "SHIT YEAH, BURGERS!" down at you.

  • Trisha C.

Don't compare this to In-N-Out, because really, there's no comparison. However, for what Drifter's is, it's a great fast food burger joint. Their burgers are tasty and fresh (if a little heavy on the lettuce), the fries are thin and crispy, and the shakes are thick, rich, and yummy! I love that they use local Callicrate Beef and non-GMO buns.

    (4)
  • Matthew M.

Good local burger shop. As you could have guessed from other comments the general consensus is that this is a In-and-Out clone. It is very similar and for all intents and purpose the same. However, you can tell they are different restaurants. Solid burgers that I don't think anyone else in the springs can beat for the price

    (4)
  • David T.

My son and I were in the neighborhood and had heard so many great things about this place we had to stop. Food was good, but I wouldn't say there's anything overly special about it. If in the area again I might stop in if I was hungry, but I wouldn't make a special trip for it.

Ambiance: Though freshly painted, place seems worn and dated (obvious signs of previous establishments that were located here over the years.) Needs a make-over. Fast food burger joint with drive thru service. Sorta of a surfer theme, that is carried out with limited success. Very large kitchen area, and a little off-putting with old fries littering the floor, and waded up paper bags in the corner (noticed this on two different visits) -- need to take a broom to the floor once in awhile, especially since all of this is in clear view of the customers. Service: Really friendly (but they are not up to the near-perfect customer service standards and clean, fresh appearance as In-N-Out Burger in California.) Food: Quite a tasty little burger (their special sauce is similar to thousand island dressing.) You can order your onions either grilled, or cut raw. Fries are average (I saw several large bags in which the fries came from, so I assume they are frozen -- In-N-Out's are cut fresh, never frozen). Overall, one of the better burgers here in town, with just ok fries. Owners need to put some money into sprucing the place up a bit - kind of a dive.

As someone who spent about 10 years in California and loved In-and-Out Burger, this place is reasonably close. Not as good, but a decent burger meal.

We love Drifters!! Natural meat and fresh some organic vegetables in the salads too. Very clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Love it!! If it wasn't for Drifter's we wouldn't be able to go out and have hamburgers as we will not eat unnatural meat. Even the buns are natural with no high fructose corn syrup etc. I can trust eating here!

  • Patricia M.

My husband and I heard a lot of our friends comparing Drifter's to In-N-Out Burgers.....not at all the Burgers are not to be compared. In-N-Out would never serve Burgers like Drifter's. When we went to Drifter's on a Saturday at lunch time we expected it to be busy but waiting for two cheeseburgers and fries for 40 minutes is a little long. I do not really have an issue to wait some time for great food, however when we received our burgers the Burger patties were really thin almost not existent and not seasoned at all, the fries were in the fryer too long and to the point of burned. A Burger is about the meat and it needs to be seasoned. Really disappointing when you order a Burger and what you get is a Burger bun with lettuce cheese, some sauce and a really thin Burger Pattie. Sorry, but we will not be going back

  • Tracie M.

The burgers are excellent! Perhaps I am the only person on earth who hasn't had an In-and-Out burger, so I can't compare the two, but I don't think I would want to anyway. I'm hoping Drifter's stays in this location, as it really has been a different restaurant almost every year for a while. Why no bacon in the afternoon? Some people like a big ole slab of bacon on our burgers!!! Bacon is on the menu for breakfast (which I've never had), but they won't cook a slice of bacon for a customer? Dine-in area is pretty bland. Very friendly staff, good food, reasonable prices. Love that they use the "good" beef from Ranch Foods! I've never noticed a "frozen" taste to my fries.

Drifters is by far the best burger I have found in the Springs. All I have heard in the past is how everyone from Cali wants In-And-Out Burger. I recently took a trip and found an In-And-Out Burger. Granted the burger was great but I still feed Drifters is equal. When I need a burger I am willing to drive across town just to get a Drifters. There is no other burger in town I will drive that far for. The only menu item i would avoid is the grilled cheese. It was a shame how bad it was, My daughter was looking forward to the grilled cheese and when it came out she asked for a burger instead. With that one flaw I still gave it 5 stars.

  • James B.

After the closing of Conway's Redtop Burgers last year I wondered if someone else would fill the niche and provide us with a product that supplies a patty as thin as the slice of cheese when I order a cheeseburger. Today I found it at Drifters. The fries were hard and overcooked. I may have just caught them on a bad day. They are close to where I live so if they are still around when the first blizzard hits I might give them another chance.

  • Chris S.

There was some rumors that Drifters had some ties to In-N-Out.. The cashier quickly disspelled these rumors today. If you're an In-N-Out enthusiast don't go there expecting In-N-Out quality.. do go there expecting a good quality meal. Worth every penny! Drifters could do some very easy and inexpensive things to help stand out among the COS fast food seen. 1) Carmelize they "grilled onions" and 2) add fresh cut fries to there menu. Just some suggestions. Drifters is worth a try.

    (4)
  • Rob E.

Yes, this is an In-n-Out knock off, but they ruined it with the gross Callicrate beef - that stuff is just nasty. It's the same reason I don't go to Goodtimes burgers - the meat just tastes wrong. Drifter's burgers seem to have everything right to help me get my in n out fix in the Springs but I can't stand the beef and it just ruins the experience. There's a better in-n-out knock off in Denver, Old School Burgers - those burgers are way better.

  • David L.

Excellent! They really do taste just like In N Out, which is extremely popular in California. The restaurant is lame, and service is slow, but the Double Cheeseburger with grilled onions is so worth the wait. Smothered with cheese and juicy. Now I know what drive-thru to get in when I need an In N Out style burger.

    (4)

So good! Get the Wild Style!

    (5)
  • Elody and Miles M.

Great burgers! Where else in Colorado Springs can you visit a drive-thru and grab a burger made from high quality antibiotic/hormone free beef? We love Drifter's because we know we're getting the best.

    (5)
  • Michael M.

Top burger in the Springs. Top breakfast in the Springs. Great food, Great prices, Great Service, Great, just all around Great. The comparison to IN-n-OUT, is like comparing our water to California water. You all know who has the best water.

    (5)
  • Matt U.

Place doesn't look like much, but they've got some pretty good burgers. Fries, not so much. It's a much better choice than the chain places for a quick burger.

    (3)
  • Chris P.

Drifter's corner lot building has been a plethora of failed restaurants over the last few years, yet I'm convinced the turn style may stop spinning as this burger joint establishes itself with new fans daily. An admitted Orange County transplant, I find it nothing too coincidental that others from the West Coast agreeably pine for three things: a beach, Trader Joe's, & In-N-Out Burger. One of them we'll never have--save San Andreas does us a HUGE favor. The other two I believe were foretold in the Book of Revelation--but it may take some time to see it all unfold. Drifter's Hamburgers, as I understand, is owned and operated by a gentleman who was employed by In-N-Out and also ran the Springs-based "Classics" quick-serve restaurants. I'm unsure of what the failings of that was, but I believe if he sticks with his current food methodology, he'll have a winner that can thrive in this brutal COS market. The menu is simple: Burger. Chicken Sandwich. Fries-Soda-Shake. It's straightforward and uncomplicated. The quality of the beef patty heralds from Ranch Foods Direct "Callicrate Beef". You may believe the 1000-cows-per-burger ala McD's or not, however this hormone/antibiotic free meat provides some confidence the core product is of much higher grade. The patties appear to be pound each. If, like most, you have some girth to supply unnecessary nutrition to, welcome yourself to the double or triple stack. Did I mention the quad-stack? Also, don't dissuade yourself from the Chicken sandwhich. This thing is fresh, plump, and full of fla-vor! As with Starbucks, a very mystical bond, a type of personal ownership develops within the coffee aficionado who is empowered to ask for things not on the menu. The same can be said for I/O lunatics who order their Double Double's "Animal Style". This hidden mod delivers your burger with a slathering of extra flavor via meat grilled with mustard, topped with grilled onion chunks, extra secret sauce, and pickles. YUM! Since Drifter's isn't a local icon and I believe many Springs residents are hell-bent on supporting only the national chains, they added this clear as day on the menu; albeit calling it "Wild Style". The end result is a literal wonderland flavor trip of taste and texture combinations not found this side of the big Rocky mound. Test me in this. Take any I/O devotee to Drifter's. After being assaulted by a familiar smell from the industrial parking lot, they'll get this knowing grin and verify with some excited explanations after the first few bites. You can't deny the similarities. For all that's good in the taste of Drifter's, one aspect that is sorely lacking is the condition of the interior restaurant space. Comparisons aside, someone with brand building or interior design needs to get involved to do a massive makeover of the guts of this place. It's a mishmash of thickly cover-over paint, unsavory restrooms, and just, well....it doesn't scream, "Welcome to this fresh, clean, burger heaven!". And it should. I've seen the lunch lines, I hope there is some budget growing to improve the aesthetics. Other items of note: The fries are good, but frozen. Rumor has that hand-cut, locally provided potatoes may be making their way to the oil. Let's hope. There is also homage to the famed Walter Knott (of Knott's Berry Farm--Walt Disney's contemporary on the Orange County 1950's amusement park scene). You can find a Boysenberry shake on the menu and though not as potent in flavor as could be found, it was refreshing and different. Breakfast needs to be reconsidered--at least on the breakfast burrito level. A burrito freak, the "World Famous B52 Burrito" monstrosity contains eggs, onions, cheese, bacon, ham, sausage, and tater tots. The problem starts with the overwhelming amount of saltiness in this gut-buster. Don't get me wrong, three types of pork under one roof is fine by me. Yet somehow the quality of meat is either over salted, over brined, or over inundated with sodium. The net effect is the same. The three chances I gave to this breakfast item, the results were the same: the eggs are cooked omelet style and have each time come out dry and overcooked. Brown on eggs is never good. Based on reports from taste buds in Sector 7, there are potato bits in the B52, but they are broken up and come across as fragments from a once intact Tater Tot. Again, this is also salty and doesn't call out to the freshness gods. To top it off, some horrible-worse-than-Pace-Picante-concoction is offered in small 1/15 oz. containers. The B52 Burrito is something one may expect from Aunt JoJos' Dinner off the highway South of Iowa somewhere. If you like that sort of thing, enjoy. I'll just wait for lunch hour. 4 Stars for now until they can improve the interior and fix a bad breakfast burrito. Try Drifter's Hamburgers today. This review has made me hungry; I think it's time for a good burger...

i was recommended to this place + i would like to recommend it to others, the burgers are unique and delicious. i love the atmosphere, it's a 50's diner / california surfer vibe. the staff is friendly + very helpful. give 'em a try.

Best burger in town (with 5 Guys being a close 2nd)... and I like Drifters fries better so it makes it a hands-down favorite. After eating In-n-Out burgers for years in CA, I'd believe the rumor that this place was started by someone who ran one before. Some have commented on the ambiance - I say who cares, it's a burger joint. :) It's clean, the service has been excellent, and the burgers are the best. The regular burger is a little on the small side for someone with a really big appetite, so a big guy might want to order two - or the one burger with 4 patties. (Yikes!)

    (5)
  • Katrina A.

I've heard rumor that this place is owned by the former GM of an In n Out. For anyone who knows In n Out, this is apparent as soon as you walk in the door. The menu (plus a few extras) is almost identical. The burgers come with special sauce. Would you like grilled onions or sliced? Wild style? No problem. (Never tried it as I wasn't a fan of animal style.) Everything is good, they use the Callicrate beef which seems to be everywhere in Colorado Springs. I find those patties to be a little thin but very tasty. The only big difference I can see between Drifter's and In n Out are the french fries. Drifter's are more like McDonald's fries, still very yummy, but not the trade mark In n Out. This is by far my favorite burger place in town.

    (4)
  • Len B.

Every state I've been in that doesn't have an In 'n' Out claims to have a clone. Drifters attempt is feeble at best. The only things that come close to resembling In 'N' Out is their basic menu, the wild style (which is identical to animal style at I N O) and the Big Island which is like I N O's 4 x 4 - oh yes, and the palm trees on the sign. As far as the taste and quality, the flavor of their burgers is masked by their secret sauce that isn't very good. I couldn't even taste the grilled onions. Their fries are like McDonalds - good but I like the fresh fries at I N O better. You do get a good portion which is nice. I would say their burgers are definitely better than McDonalds but no where near In 'N' Out. Probably compares more with Sonic. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was pretty clean. All in all it was an ok burger for a fair price but should never be compared to the country's best burger - In 'N' Out.

  • Craig M.

Rumor has it this place is somehow connected with the legendary In-N-Out. I believe it. This is as good as it gets for fast food. Not kidding. Order a double cheeseburger, wild style, with fries and a shake and you will totally see the light. This place should be on every carnivore on Yelp!'s "To-Do" list. The drive-thru is a bit slow sometimes, but I imagine that's because they are cooking everything fresh. The only thing that always throws me off is that the style of the location is heavily southwestern, like the owners leased out an old Mexican restaurant or something. Not a fan of that, I say if you are going to open a place this great really go for it. Remodel, give it as much flavor as you give your food. The curb-appeal is not working in their favor and has probably scared away a lot of people. The only reason I checked it out was because of a word-of-mouth recommendation.

Anything that caters to surf will catch my attention, especially when the closest beach is a 2 hour flight away. This was a great find for our crew (based in Southern California) because the menu and flavors are very reminiscent of In N Out. ANYONE that has ordered a Double-Double with grilled onions will know when I say the onions have a distinct flavor on the burger. Drifter's has that NAILED. Orders are cooked fresh and hot, served up with the way In N Out's fries SHOULD be!! Our next trip to the Mountain, you know we're gonna stop by for our DD fix!! Thanks, Drifter's!! Hang Loose! And MAHALO for reading!

My first time here and it did not disappoint. The food was extra yummy and the service was fast and friendly. I was told by guy at the register to try the boysenberry milkshake as it's a "must try." I would absolutely agree. Try it at least once!

Hang Ten for Drifters Colorado Springs Food Guy went to Drifter's Hamburgers located at 4455 Mark Dabling Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80907. Kahili was our server and she was awesome, attentive and knowledgeable. Drifter's Hamburgers resembles the In and Out Hamburger chain in the California-style burger. I sampled the regular Cheeseburger and the Double Cheeseburger. The Big Island burger was also a hit with a colossal 4 patties and extra cheese. Both restaurants use meat that is fresh and all natural, but I think Drifter's burger patties are way juicer. In terms of French Fries, Drifter's tastes better too. However, I think the House sauce should be a little thicker or maybe I should have asked for extra since it was also very tasty. The ambiance is average, but is consistent with the California beach house theme. The chicken sandwich was also sampled and although it was well seasoned, it had a little too much mayo. Don't forget to ask for the grilled onions because it really makes the burgers unforgettable. The nice surprise of the evening was the Boysenberry milkshake. On a hot summer day, it was just the happy ending to a great meal. When you go to Drifter's, tell them the Colorado Springs Food Guy sent you. OM freakin' G! Why is this my first visit?!?!? The food is fast, fresh, & Delicious! Reminds me sooooo much of In n' Out but better! Why do I say this? Because In n'Out does not use farm raised beef. I will be a steady customer until I die!

I've actually not eaten lunch here, but I've had their breakfast burrito and it was pretty flippin' amazing! To echo other reviews, it definitely has that In N Out feel to it. The reason I couldn't give five stars, though, was two of the people I had breakfast with discovered their eggs in the burritos to be pretty under-cooked (I don't think enough to get you sick, but enough that they were still clearly under-cooked). Fortunately, the employees there were appropriately apologetic and remade my friends' burritos on the spot without any hassle.

I was told this is the closest to In n Out that you can get in the Springs, so as a California native I was excited to try it. They're similar, but they are nothing in comparison to In n Out. To be fair, they are still good burgers, I definitely prefer them wild style. I've tried them a few times, and the fries are rarely salted (of the times we've visited), both drive-thru and sit down. The girls working have attitude at times, maybe they're just having off days when we go in, but we try to be nice anyways. The guys are much friendlier, and patient. Pros: -Good Burgers -Good prices -Generous fries, they pile them on. Cons: -Staff at times -Bathroom needs renovating. -They wouldn't customize the menu at all, we just wanted some extra dressing for our fries and they said they couldn't do it? Okay, no dressing it is lol.

This place was close to our hotel so we tried it out one night. Pretty good burgers. The menu is short and sweet. The only thing I didn't like was their fries. They added way too much salt for my liking, so they remade some for me. Great service!

The food is AMAZING, or else I would have given this place one star. Seriously, I'm from California and this is like as good (or better) than in-n-out. My two major complaints are: 1. Not open on sunday?! What?! This place would make sooooooo much more money if they were open on Sunday. I can't tell you how many times I've driven by here on a Sunday wanting the amazing food these guys have and I can't. I'm sure I'm not the only one. As a small business marketing consultant, I feel like this is a bad choice. 2. Drive thru times. We have a dvd player built into our dashboard and I swear to god i've watched an entire episode of Seinfeld from the time I entered the drive thru line til the time I got my burger multiple times. I used to work in the drive thru at panera, where we had to hand-make salads and pastas and paninis, and we still got people through the drive thru in 3 minutes with a huge variety in our menu. I feel like if you mostly just make hamburgers, just keep making them when it's a busy lunch hour. Odds are, almost everyone in line wants a burger, so maybe just keep throwing them on the grill? Anyway, the food is ridiculously good, but the technical stuff needs to be worked out.

Darn good burger made with higher quality beef. Copy of In-N-Out Burger? Not sure I see the similarities, but I am usually high when I eat at In-N-Out Burger. Drifters reminds me of a Tastee Freez setting, just like growing up in ND, one on every corner. Ample seating, clean bathrooms, friendly cooks/staff, and no one looking down their nose at you based on the clothes you wear. Bought lunch for myself and a buddy for $17 and was more than happy with serving size - both of us left full and wanted to take a nap. Have eaten here three times and the burger never changes, I like consistency. Keep the slabs of meat coming!

So much deliciousness! Burgers on point, fries petrfection with just the right amount of salt and their milkshakes!! Holy crap their thick flavor filled milkshake, like i died and went to heaven. Needless to say i wolfed down my food so fast and then started eating from my fiances plate. So much goodness!!

Love love love this place. Closest to in-n-out burger I've had since leaving Cali.... But Colorado and drifters better!!!!

  • Dave K.

Meh, it's okay for a burger joint...nothing spectacular. They did mess up my order at the drive thru, but it was not anything too severe. The burger looked good, but it was pretty flavorless. Fries were really crispy. Maybe a bit too crispy for my preference. A double cheeseburger combo will set you back about $8 total.

I love Drifters... best hamburgers at the best prices in town. Yeah, there are other good hamburgers in town but Drifters has that typical American hamburger... not a half pounder served with 4" of 'stuff' on it. If you want a $10 burger with seaweed on it, go somewhere else. If you want a great all American hamburger with great, crispy fries, go to Drifters. Either one. Prices are also spot on. Always gets me to pay $5 - $10 for a hamburger. Not at Drifters. Try them on the wild side... our favorite. Oh yes, and they use Caligrate beef. Can't get better than that. It is a limited menu but what they do is consistently great. As a (very) former Californian, I rate Drifter's better than In n Out.

Horrible service! Dirty tables, trash full, the entire staff was in the back talking about closing early. Yikes!!

A good little place to grab a decent burger. Like many of the other reviews it's similar to in-n-out but the fries are much better here. Service was ok, the kid was kind of out of it when he took our order, but we got what we ordered. Prices are good for what you get and I'd definitely eat here again. It could be a bit cleaner and could use a refresh on some of the interior trim.

Would compare this burger to a Steak'N'shake burger. The menu is very minimal with few options. If you order a combo they pile on the french fries which are a thin cut just as Steak'N'shake has. The wait staff was very prompt and polite especially during a busy lunch rush.

As dozens of Yelpers have already said, Drifter's is a shameless copycat of In-N-Out. They do a nice job, even down to the presentation of the burgers and fries. With that said, the restaurant itself is a far cry from its squeaky-clean idol on the West Coast. The interior of Drifter's is somewhat sketchy, and it's not an attractive building. I had a double cheeseburger wild style (read: animal style) and it was excellent. The fries were good, too, and very fresh. Let's face it: no burger copycat is going to live up to the five-star In-N-Out standard. However, Drifter's a good burger joint, and I think it gets at least three and a half stars.

  • Sean S.

Drifters, Here's the thing: I like you. The food is solid and not too badly priced. But you can't charge someone $1.80 just to get a large cup of water. It's Colorado. We drink water. C'mon. Sincerely, Sean

For those of us that had a In-N-Out Burger, this burger is a complete copy of their signature burger. The meat, veggies, cheese, and especially the sauce. Except for their fries, the fries are not fresh, they are shoestring fries from the freezer aisle. They do give you plenty of fries. We came on a Saturday afternoon, when there was only one other customer in the store, and most likely there was no manager on site, because the girls behind the counter had better things to do with their time. I'm sorry, but when I need assistance, and I'm calling you, and I have to raise my voice to catch your attention, because you are too busy flirting with the cook, that is not cool at all. One more thing: Please label the iced tea (sweet and unsweetened), not cool when the customer has to taste each to figure out which is which.

Drifter's makes a delicious burger. I've heard it compared to In-N-Out (sometimes disparagingly, with the insinuation being that Drifter's is just a poor copy), but quite honestly, I prefer Drifter's. Their wild style burgers are amazing, and the fries are pretty tasty, as well. The only thing keeping it from getting a five-star review is the location. As others have mentioned, the atmosphere isn't great, and the tables are often dirty. It is impressive to see something survive in this building, though--before Drifter's, this building had housed several different restaurants that all seemed to go out of business in quick succession, so kudos to Drifter's for breaking that trend!

I was craving a burger last Monday and have been told that Drifters is THE place for them out here. I've also heard the In-N-Out comparisons, and you'll see those on almost all the reviews on here. I'll first say that it isn't In N Out, as much as everyone would like to think. I walked into Drifters and to be honest it smelt like INO and that put a smile on my face but the food does not taste like it. With that said the burger was quite good. It's a solid burger, good cheese, tasty bun and all. I ordered the Big Island burger which is a 4x4 (4 meats 4 cheeses). I would eat it again. The fries were ehh, not terrible but kind of like McDonald's. Simple burgers. Good prices. If craving a burger in COS it would be a toss up for me between Drifters, Freddies steakburgers and Five Guys, slight differences but all good.

Great burgers, usually indistinguishable from In n Out. Fries, not any thing like In n Out, but good anyway. Shakes are real ice cream and delicious. Service slightly above average. Over all a great burger joint.

Yum...double yum Wild Style burger drives me wild. I would steal my teenage son's burger if I could. Oh wait...I DID!!!! love these burgers. The only reason I cannot go five is that if you are disabled you might have to eat without a table and access can be a challenge as the store at Chapel Hills does not have the minimum of 2 handicapped parking and the one that is there is not van accessible. They only have two tables you can get into from a chair. As they are not marked for the disabled you will end up eating out of your lap if able bodied choose those two and leave the other tables empty.

When compared to California's In and Out Burger, a staple since my childhood growing up in L.A., you are bound to come-up short. My son, an In and Out novice, insisted on getting dinner from Drifter's on Super Bowl Eve, saying "they have the best burgers in The Springs, similar to In and Out" and boy I was glad he did! With such a basic menu it is easy to see how they excel with simple, fresh ingredients, quality ground beef, and reasonable prices. Where they diverge from In and Out is in their consistency and presentation. Every In and Out hamburger looks identical to the last with fresh lettuce and thick, red tomato on a fresh, toasted bun wrapped in their classic white, red, and yellow sandwich paper. Each of the three burgers we ordered at Drifter's looked completely different than the others even though the ingredients were roughly the same. The makings were fresh and the food tasty, but they just do not have the process down as their California cousin has done so well for over 50 years. The French fries were good and hot with just a little too much salt and just a bit too thin for my taste. The hamburgers were good and greasy as they should be with sautéed onions, melted American cheese, lettuce, and tomato. The only thing missing was pickle and bacon, which I understand is not an option at Drifter's (bacon that is) ... TOO BAD! My recommendation is to FORGET IN AND OUT and focus on what Drifter's does well and that is producing a quality burger and fries at a reasonable price. You are not In and Out, you never will be, so create and embrace your own identity ... DRIFTER"S HAMBURGERS! CombatCritic Gives Drifter's Hamburgers 8 Bombs Out of 10 for BURGER VALUE ... The food, as far as fast food goes, is a five. Its the service and the atmosphere where drifters takes a hit on it's rating. The building itself is ugly, any free tables are almost always dirty. This is a testiment to both how busy they are and how little emphasis they put on atmosphere. My food, however, has always been hot, fresh, and delicous. Tips: get the boysenberry shake and get the burgers wild style. Delicous!

With so many different burger and quick service restaurants in the area, it's easy to understand why this place is still standing. The burger meat is fantastic, the fries are fresh and hot all the time and they wrap it in lettuce for those of us who can't have bread. It's not a fancy place but great for a nice casual sit down lunch. 7/2014

The burger today ws as good as it gets. The produce was excellent and abundant. They were a little busy so the dining room needed policing, but no one seemed to mind.

  • Tara C.

Was torn on how many stars to give. The food is good. Everything is great in that area but... The dining area was filthy! Trash was overflowing, food smashed onto the floor, tables not cleaned off, & flies.. All that tends to make you a little leary as to the condition of the food prep area. Again, good food but they need to clean!

I have to say Drifters is one of the best fast food burger joints in the Springs period. I do like the In-N-Out's in Cali but there lines are always super long and it takes for ever to get a burger. At Drifter's the burgers are made to order and not piled up on the side waiting to be served. The best way I have found is to do your burger natural style and wild style, that way you actually get to taste the beef. Also they use Calicrate which is local and fresh, not on the shelf frozen like most before. Also to compare Drifter's to In-N-Out is crazy because In-N-Out is a big chain who has their own plants for providing their beef. Drifter's is a little local company trying to make a name for themselves. Check them out and if it is breakfast time try the B-52, oh and after having the B-52 you will be to full to eat any lunch.

Service was awful. The cashier seemed pre-occupied and was not very helpful. Asked for separate bags for our 3 orders, they jammed everything into two bags. Two orders were supposed to be without onions or tomatoes, that was wrong. Condiments were dumped onto the fries. What kind of burger restaurant does not serve bacon? Will never eat there again!!! $25.00+ for 3 combo meals that were barely better than McDonld's... What a horrible experience!

    (1)
  • Keebler F.

Not bad tasting. Close to In N Out, but not quite the same possible because they use frozen meat where In N Out doesn't. Their sauce is more sweet and their bun is not as good as In N Out, however, I like their fries better.

After its billing as a Colorado compromise for the venerable California burger institution, In and Out Burger, I had to check out Drifter's Hamburgers while in Colorado Springs.. Located at a moderately busy and definitely nondescript intersection in northern Colorado Springs, Drifter's largely lives up to its billing, in terms of its burgers. I had a double-burger meal, wild style, and it was very tasty. The advertising within the restaurant notes the burgers are non-GMO and made without preservatives, and there's nothing wrong with that. The burger did bear an eerie resemblance to an animal style burger from In and Out, and the fries are a reasonable facsimile as well. There's nothing fancy here -- it's a fast food-ish setting (although not quite fast food speed) in a rather characterless building. Still, you come to Drifter's for the food, and it certainly lived up in that regard.

I was a bit skeptical when I stopped here for lunch, as I spent the first 25 years of my life in SoCal within walking distance of an In N' Out. My best friend insisted that this would be a perfect substitute for the Double-Double's we both grew up enjoying! As much as I hate to admit it, he was right! The burgers are nearly identical down to the grilled onions and bun! The fries were good but definitely not In N' Out... Although I have to agree with previous reviews that the restaurant needs some work! It seems almost sacrilegious to serve a burger that great in such a nondescript building! Flare it up guys...part of the In N' Out magic comes from the restaurant itself. Regardless, Ill be returning quite often...as this place is definitely a diamond in the rough! Good job Drifters!!!

Recently visited their booth at a convention in California, the food was FANTASTIC!! The founder was there and made us Grilled Cheese sandwiches since we are vegetarian. I've been hearing and reading the In-n-out comparisons. Being raised in SoCal, i can tell you that it has slight flavorings but not true to the taste of the God of fast food Patties. The fries are no where near the caliber of the freshly cut Cali classic. Any ways, I do give this joint 4 stars for producing a tasty burger with a yummy bun. The atmosphere was so so, but hey, I came here for the food. I had two wild style cheeseburgers and my taste buds didn't fool me. Still not my Cali classic!

The most delicious hamburgers!! I love how simple and affordable it is! Definitely try the wild style on your burgers. Spilt my entire cup of soda here the thee day. Staff was super friendly and helped me clean up. Thanks guys! Keep up the great work.

Fast friendly service and burgers in the style of in n out - what more can a California transplant want?! Well, it helps that they have siracha sauce you can mix with the ketchup to add some spice for fry dipping. Not quite as clean or consistent in style (but always good) as in n out and fries are a little "meatier", whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you. Overall a great fast food option.

  • Lauren M.

I love the fact they use Calicrate beef. The buns were also toasted perfectly so they have a nice crunch. The burger patties themselves are pretty thin, so you may have to order a double meat burger just to equal a normal size patty. The fries were also good. The place itself has a surfer theme and it's pretty clean. Nothing horrible but nothing amazing food wise. They serve breakfast till 11:30 too.

I first went to drifters when it had a dirty old sign up. For some reason, dirty signs like those I associate with delicious food so I eventually stopped by coming home from work since it's right off I-25. I get either the single or double wild style combo. They always give lots of fries although sometimes they are a bit stale. The burger itself is delicious every time. It's not one of those fine dining burgers. The burger makes no qualms on what it is, a greasy flavorful delicious piece of meat between two buns. Five guys is no match. Don't get me started on the big 3 fast food chains. My girlfriend from California says she likes it better than In N Out. Just go, do it.

I have eaten at Drifter's regularly.... but recently it has gone DOWN HILL. Today was an all time low. The burger was so cold, it couldn't melt the cheese... The dining area was 1/3 full and every empty table was dirty... There was trash and plastic-ware on the floor, etc. When I got my number called and I went up to get my food, I mentioned it to the woman behind the counter... she looked totally surprised and did nothing to correct the issues. Other people were commenting amongst themselves.

So I think just about everybody has mentioned the similarities to In-N-Out burger. And the legend is that the owner/GM used to work at one out in California. Either way, I still think it's one of the better tasting/better for you burgers in The Springs. I usually get either the single cheeseburger or the double cheeseburger, and the taste is really consistent from time to time. One of the drawbacks seems to be that they hire fairly young workers (surprise...it IS a burger place) because every so often there is a little flub in quality. The other day when I ate there the sweet tea ran out, and when they remade it, I think they were in a rush, and it turned out to be about three times as strong as it should've been. Oh well! Still where I go to get a burger most of the time!

I am from California and this burger is quite close to In-N-Out burger. It is good but INO is still the best. The French fries tasted like they have been fried twice. As for the atmosphere, not a comfortable feel to it. The décor looks run down, Though the burger is good, but I would not return.

It seems as though burger joints these days are compared to one of the two extremes of the world of fast-food burgers: In N Out and McDonalds. Drifters is without a doubt on the In N Out side of this broad burger spectrum, and you can tell before even stepping inside that whomever started Drifters did so with the model of In N Out firmly in mind, even down to the Southern California decour. Luckily, he or she didn't stray far from the In N Out model, and as a result, Drifter's burgers are absolutely fantastic. Topped with tomato, onion and thousand islands dressing, the burgers are a filling and cheap treat and the fries crisp and salty. As a bit of an unknown bonus, Drifters also serves breakfast, and their B52 $5 breakfast burritos rival those that can be found in some of Colorado's fantastic hole-in-the-wall Mexican establishments. Overall, come to Drifter's if you're looking for a more than suitable substitute for In N Out. You won't be dissapointed.

This is a great little burger and shake place, Not a lot of options on the menu, but they don't really need much. The meat and buns were fresh and top quality. Plenty of fries came out as well. Great place for a quick lunch or a laid back dinner. Prices are really reasonable too!

Burgers are a decent substitute for In-N-Out... ...the B-52 breakfast burrito on the other hand...wow. Tasted awesome and I was so full I skipped lunch. That's something In-N-Out doesn't have.

This place is absolutely AMAZING! Burger tastes simply amazing, nearly perfect. Lettuce and Tomato are always very fresh and have that "it" factor. Fries are very good as well, I am drooling just thinking about this place.

  • Jeanne C.

Contrary to popular belief, this place is no substitute for In-N-Out Burger. The burgers and fries are good, but the overall experience was less than impressive. The floor was dirty, the tabletop in our booth was wobbly, and the overall interior looked less than crisp and tidy. Anytime I see a place taking shortcuts with the dining room I wonder what shortcuts they're taking in the kitchen.

    (2)
  • Missy B.

First of all I have to say that I was really excited to try this place because there were so many reviews comparing it with In-N-Out. REALLY?! This place is NOTHING like it! Just because you have a thin burger patty and the bag sort of smells like In-N-Out in your car does not mean that they are even comparable in my eyes! Don't get me wrong, the burgers are OK but they aren't even close to In-N-Out. The sauce is much different and the ingredients aren't as fresh tasting. And the fries are far from In-N-Out quality- although I did enjoy those as well! Another reason this place is so totally different is the atmosphere and the service. Drifter's has the typical, fairly grouchy fast-food cashier which is FAR different from the genuinely happy In-N-Out employees. Also, the location is pretty run down. So, I think it is time that people just start reviewing this place for what it is- a little, fast-food, drive thru burger joint with some decent food, not a comparable In-N-Out rip-off. I will definitely eat here again, but not because I am craving In-N-Out!

    (3)
  • Tim K.

I'm going to reneg on my previous 1 star rating, and even my claim to "never go back". That was a little harsh. I just finished one of Drifter's cheese burgers, and it was actually pretty good. The burger smelled more like In-N-Out than tasted like In-N-Out. Just sayin'. The chocolate shake was quite good. I don't eat burgers often but I could see eating here more often if I get a burger craving. But I know better than to think that Drifter's is The Springs secret INO location. If Drifter's was on par with INO they'd always have a line out the door and numerous locations around town.

    (3)
  • Kasey B.

The hamburgers were decent enough. The atmosphere is a little run down, but the price is fair for a fast burger. Better than other fast food restaurants, but I wouldn't consider it gourmet.

My husband and I LOVE Drifters and eat there any time we can. We live in southern Colorado springs so we don't get to go to Drifters often. But whenever we are off of garden of the gods or chapel hills we ALWAYS eat there. I recommend getting your burger wild style! If you're from California and miss In-N-Out, this is a MUST GO place for you!

  • Masato M.

I don't want to say it, but yes the burgers here do taste like In-n-out burgers. It has a weird surfer theme though this restaurant is in Colorado.

Update: Thought id give them another try. Used the drive through. Fairly bland burger this time. Have been on the toilet 3 times in 3 hours since eating it. Eat at your own risk. Original post: Burgers are decent. Pretty thin patties. Grilles onions is the only highlight. Dining room dirty at 1:30 pm on a weekday. Not just dirty but gross. Every empty table / chair had something on it. Condiment station was a disaster too. Just not very appetizing. There wasnt one employee that looked to be over 19 yrs old. No (qualified) manager to be seen.
